More information on the Workshop website.

Hosted by the Surrey Centre for Law and Philosophy

Organisers: Hrafn Asgeirsson, Mikołaj Barczentewicz, and Ira Lindsay

The idea of the Workshop had been sparked by “The Law of Interpretation” by William Baude and Stephen E. Sachs. This paper has fuelled a philosophical discussion about the grounds of rules (or more broadly, methods) of legal interpretation  (see, e.g., the response by Mark Greenberg). We intend to continue this discussion at the Workshop.

One of the main questions we hope the participants will address is whether rules of legal interpretation are (fully) grounded in positive law, as Baude and Sachs suggested. Some of the contributions will constitute direct responses to “The Law of Interpretation,” but the participants are likely to consider other related issues in metaphysics of law and in theory of legal interpretation.

Due to limited space, registration is required for attendance. To register, please use Eventbrite.
