About the Speaker:

René Brouwer (PhD Cambridge, MPhil Utrecht, LLM Amsterdam) is a lecturer at the University of Utrecht, where he teaches philosophy and law in the Faculty of Law. In 2013-14 he held a visiting professorship Philosophie der Antike und Moderne at the Humboldt University, Berlin, in 2020-21 he holds a fellowship at the Institute of Advanced Studies at the University of Surrey.

He publishes on a variety of subjects in the philosophy and history of law as well as in ancient philosophy. The co-edited volume Fate, Providence and Free Will in the Early Imperial Age came out in 2020; his monograph on the consequential interaction between Roman jurists and Hellenistic philosophers, Law and Philosophy in the Late Roman Republic, has recently been published with Cambridge University Press.
