The Surrey Centre for Law and Philosophy invites you to a double seminar on methodology in jurisprudence, to be delivered by Julie Dickson (Oxford) and Raff Donelson (Penn State). The event is scheduled to take place in person.

Julie Dickson is Professor of Legal Philosophy in the Faculty of Law, and Fellow and Senior Law Tutor at Somerville College. After completing an undergraduate law degree at the University of Glasgow in her native Scotland, and a D. Phil in Philosophy of Law at Balliol College, Oxford, she held lectureships at the University of Leicester and University College London before taking up a Fellowship in Law at Somerville. Professor Dickson works mainly in general jurisprudence or philosophy of law, and especially on methodological issues, and her publications on this topic include her book, Evaluation and Legal Theory (2001). She is also interested in theoretical aspects of Transnational law, especially European Union Law, including the theory of legal systems in the EU context.

Raff Donelson is Associate Professor of Law at the Dickinson School of Law at Penn State. Prior to joining Dickinson Law, Prof Donelson was Assistant Professor of Law and Philosophy at Louisiana State University. There, he served on the advisory board for the LSU Institute for Ethics and directed the Philosophy Department’s program in Law, Ethics, and Social Justice. Prod Donelson’s research and teaching focus on constitutional law, criminal procedure, and legal philosophy. His more theoretical research interests include metaethics and general jurisprudence, while his doctrinal work focuses on constitutional protections for criminals and the accused.
