Event Details
It is our pleasure to welcome Michael S. Moore of the University of Illinois, who will present: “Moral Combat and the Hohfeldian Analysis of Active Rights”, coauthored with Heidi Hurd. This is a pre-read seminar. Registered attendees will receive the paper by email one week prior to the event. A wine and cheese reception will follow.
Abstract: Hurd and Moore restate the central theses of Hohfeld, emphasizing their clarity, systemeticity, originality, and importance to both legal and moral analysis, and then raise questions about Hohfeld’s schema and detail an alternative schema long ago put forward by Hurd following what may broadly be called the Kantian tradition.
This seminar is part of our Hart Seminar Series, which features a diverse group of leading scholars working at the intersection of law and philosophy. Hart Publishing contributes generous support to make the seminar series possible. The complete 2017-18 line-up is available here.
